Junior Alanna Parkes is honored as February’s Athlete of the Month for her contributions to the spring and winter track and field team. Parkes started her track and field journey in 3rd grade. She quit shortly after, but then joined again in 7th grade. “I felt like I needed to do a sport but none of the other sports I tried really clicked. My friends asked me to join the track in 7th and I loved it and I was pretty decent so I stuck with it.” Parkes stated.
Her favorite part of the team has been the bond between her teammates. “Even though it is considered an individual sport it never really feels like it because we are all so close and always pushing each other at practices and meets to get better” Parkes stated. She feels the relay events are particularly fun. “Track is such a mental sport. Me and my 4×100 relay always just like to have fun with the relays and we end up with great results because it takes the stress off when you don’t take it too seriously.” she stated. Parkes and her 4×100 teammates have broken numerous school records for their outstanding performance in the event.
Athlete wasn’t available for interview- Senior Teddy Olsen contributes both on WMC’s Basketball court and the Football field.According to NJ.com, Olsen currently has 675 points total in his basketball career.
