Although released in 1973, Buckingham Nicks, the first and only album made by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham as a duo before they joined Fleetwood Mac, is being remastered and reissued on September 19th, 2025. Buckingham Nicks was released under the record label Polydor, however shortly after the release, Polydor dropped the album, leaving Nicks and Buckingham without a record deal, and without a label to create another album under.
Even though both Nicks and Buckingham have discussed re-releasing the album for decades since the album was released, it never came to fruition. When Lindsey Buckingham was kicked out of Fleetwood Mac in 2018 and it was clear that he and Stevie Nicks were on non-speaking terms, many thought that the re-release of Buckingham Nicks would never happen, upsetting fans who were hoping to one day be able to listen to the album on streaming platforms.
However on July 16th, 2025, Mick Fleetwood, the drummer of Fleetwood Mac, teased the reissue of the album with an Instagram post where he is listening to “Frozen Love,” a song from the Buckingham Nicks album. The next day, Stevie Nicks posted a photo on Instagram with the lyrics from the song “Crying in the Night,” stating, “And if you go forward…”, and soon after, Lindsey Buckingham posted a response photo with words that finish the lyric that Nicks posted, stating, “ I’ll meet you there.” This confirmed the suspicions that Buckingham Nicks was going to be re-released, and on July 23rd a billboard was put up in Los Angeles promoting the album with the date of release. The same day, the first single promoting the album, “Crying in the Night” was released, and on August 13th, the second single from the album “Don’t Let Me Down Again” was released. The final single to promote the album, “Frozen Love,” was released on September 10th.
With the album release on the horizon, fans are excited to listen to Buckingham Nicks with the updated and better sound on streaming platforms for the first time. Sophomore Alec Krakowski said, “I’m excited because both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham are great artists and inspirations of mine, and having them come together to make the Buckingham Nicks remaster is a whimsical moment.”
This long awaited release showcases the impact this duo has on the music industry, and the album finally being on streaming platforms will introduce a whole new generation to the album that Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham made before they made it big in Fleetwood Mac.
