On Monday, September 29, the West Morris Central student council announced the five nominees for WMC’s P.R.I.D.E. Ambassador.. As a result, the school had the opportunity to vote on a winner, which was announced at the Homecoming game on October 10. The nominees are as follows: Raffaela Kinney, Francesca Gilberti, Harris Chullum, Marc Carames, and Connor Thornton. So who are these seniors and what makes them ideal candidates for this title?
Raffaela Kinney is a West Morris Central cheerleading and softball captain and senior class president. Her other school involvement includes student advisory committee, Reach, FBLA, Science National Honor Society and peer tutoring. Being a very involved student, Raffaela said that this school has “done a lot of great things for me, and I want to give that back.” She believes that the senior representing the school as P.R.I.D.E Ambassador should be very involved, which makes her a deserving candidate for this role.
Senior Francesca Gilberti is also very involved in the school, being a captain in cheerleading, lead in Relay for Life, secretary of the senior class council, and the president of green team, Model UN, International Culture Association, French National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society. She believes that this much involvement and leadership makes her deserving of the position, but also her high amount of “school spirit” makes her an ideal candidate in her eyes.
The next nominee, Marc Carames, is involved in the Relay for Life team, Model UN, Investment Club, International Culture Club, and Academy of Science. He is also the student council’s treasurer and a district representative on the Board of Education. He feels he is deserving of the ambassador position because of his in-depth involvement in the school and says “I’m very thankful that all my peers think I’m prideful enough” to be the ambassador.
Harris Chullum has also been nominated by his peers and is notably involved in Relay for Life and Highlanders for Humanity. He believes himself to be a “good role model,” especially for the younger students and has demonstrated empathy throughout the last four years on campus, which is why he is deserving of the P.R.I.D.E ambassador.
Finally, Connor Thornton can be seen every Friday night as one of the zookeepers for the student section and on the field as a lacrosse player during the spring. He additionally participates in FBLA. Connor believes he deserves the position because of his determination to succeed, which is particularly seen through his involvement in FBLA.
Raffaela Kinney was announced the P.R.I.D.E Ambassador for the year, which was revealed during the homecoming football game, a title that she will hold for the rest of the year and setting her particularly as a role model among the senior class.
