Recently on October 24, the West Morris Wolfpack football team worked extremely hard and beat their undefeated rival Mount Olive with a score of 16-13. This victory also secured the conference championship for the Pack. This victory meant a lot, especially with how challenging it was. Many students, staff, and players were excited to watch the game and cheer on the team. This game was the first very important one of the 2025 season because it was for a conference championship. Since WMC won, they moved on to play against much bigger undefeated teams as the game after Mount Olive was round 1 of playoffs.
As students discussed and hyped up the game, some players felt a bit pressured to win for everyone and not let anyone down. However, the football team had spent a week making sure to prepare, practice, and be ready to go against another powerful and undefeated school. Tommy Borgia is a senior on the WMC team and has stated that they “have definitely come a very long way in terms of leadership and have really improved over the year.” WMC has always made sure to stay together, which is very helpful in terms of defeating other schools.
As for school spirit, the student section and the rest of the crowd at the game made sure to be as loud and enthusiastic as possible. Everyone cheered on the players as well and showed their interest in the game, which is always a big motivation for people playing in the game.
Connor Thornton is a senior and student section leader for the games along with other seniors. Leading the section is always fun, but being in a large crowd can also have its downsides too. Connor stated that a few minor difficulties were things like “getting everyone organized and making sure we had a full section”. Despite this, the students in the crowd seemed much more engaged for this specific game due to how important it was. The spirit was the best that leaders have seen compared to games before this one.
Overall, the team worked extremely hard to beat Mount Olive with a close score. As of today, the West Morris Wolfpack moved on to win against other teams until the most recent game against Old Tappan when the WMC team was unfortunately unable to win. However, the football season this year still lasted a long time and created many fun memories for students.
