As hockey season at WMC begins, students and teachers are excited to see what this season brings for the team. The team’s record last season was 12-10-1 and they placed 8th in the league and 3rd in their division. The varsity boys play their games at Mennen Ice arena since there is no ice rink anywhere closer to the town. The boys are starting off with three new coaches in three years after one got laid off and the other passed away last year.
So far in the season Coach Greg Kreha has had a very strong season to start since he has led them to win every single one of their games so far. They beat Madison, Mount Olive, and Montville. Just like any team this one has very strong rivals. One of the many big games against Montville was on 12/11 where they won 5-2.
Jacob Sisco, a senior and a strong player on the WMC hockey team is super thrilled to kick off this season. Sisco has a few goals leading into the season, and he thinks the team can definitely play their best. “The main goal is to perform at our best on and off the ice, be aggressive on the puck and in the end win the Halverson” Sisco said.. One of the many team’s strengths is being an offensive power house and never giving up on the ice. There certainly aren’t many weaknesses but one is adjusting to the new people and especially the seniors from last year leaving.
Gavin Cascarelli, a freshman and a Left Winger on the WMC hockey team has a lot of goals headed into the season despite being a freshman on a new team full of upperclassmen. One of them is to become close and become great friends with his teammates. Also, Cascarelli believes the team has a very strong offensive play and their ability to generate amazing and useful power plays are letting them score a bunch of goals on the opposing goalie. He is definitely very much enjoying being on the team and very excited to kick this season off and achieve many things in his WMC hockey career. “The best part is talking to a lot of people. I made many new friends, and the bus rides on the way to the games are really fun” Cascarelli says.
With the Halverson Cup Playoffs approaching in early February and a very early great start, The West Morris Central Hockey team has a very great chance of winning the cup and everyone is certainly rooting for them. Hopefully this team will have a great season and win the Halverson Cup.
