Disney Cancels Christmas…or did they?

Disney+Cancels+Christmas...or+did+they%3F

On October 17 2024, Mouse Trap News published an article that claimed Disney World will cancel their Disney celebration in December 2024. Obviously, many Christmas lovers and Disney fans alike were alarmed at this drastic and quick decision to fully cancel this adored winter holiday.

However, this is not the case. An article on Yahoo written by Jack Izzo found the Mouse Trap News article claiming that the Very Merry Christmas Celebration will be discontinued in 2024 to be fake news. Fortunately, Disney has no plans to cancel their 2024 celebration of Father Christmas during the most wonderful time of the year.

The unrest that this article raised for readers is a prominent issue in journalistic writing on sites such as Mouse Trap News. Every article on this site is satire, which includes many more articles about exaggerating Disney’s liberal point of view.

The issue with such articles is that it raises conflict online when such conflict and unrest is based on fake news or satire. Fake news, especially regarding an easy-click topic such as Disney who has been making many other changes to be more inclusive in their parks, can escalate quickly without being fact checked by many viewers.

Looking at the comment section under the post, many viewers found the article and became angry over the controversial, fake information. One viewer wrote, “These are fake people. Don’t believe everything you read. This site should be shut down for spreading fake news.” Thankfully, some people do recognize these sites as fake news and make an effort in order to eventually shut them down.
