Tori Wehmeyer: December Student Athlete of the Month

Tori+Wehmeyer%3A+December+Student+Athlete+of+the+Month

Congratulations to Tori Wehmeyer on being nominated for Student Athlete of the Month! Wehmeyer received this award in December of 2023 for her outstanding performances for Central’s basketball team.
Wehmeyer plays forward in basketball and plays third base in softball. She has been playing softball since she was 4 or 5, starting with T-Ball, and basketball since she was old enough to play, which was around 3rd grade.
Wehmeyer describes the team dynamics for basketball as a “young team, but we respect each other and work well together…we are coming together nicely as a team.” The team record so far this year is 10-5, with a 6-2 record in the conference.
Wehmeyer offers her advice to balance academics and athletics by using IRT time as well as “getting work done right away before practice, after practice, and not taking too many rigorous classes which prevents extra stress.” She says these are the main ways that she balances her workload and athletic priorities.
Wehmeyer would tell her freshman self to “have fun and relax, it’s a sport you love and it’s supposed to be fun for you. Don’t let the stress of it take over,”
Her favorite memory at WMC was “beating Mendham this year [in basketball], we were the underdog in that team, and all of it came from heart and it was an emotional game for me.” This game truly came from a sheer will to win from start to finish, with WMC winning this game after a game filled with stress and energy, finishing with a score of 47-44.
The best advice that she has ever received from a coach is from basketball Coach Meierhopher (AKA coach Hoff) who told the team “There will be peaks and valleys, and it means that there’s going to be highs and lows in every game but you have to ride out the lows and claw your way back into the game, and maintaining the highs is important because everyone is coming after you.”
Lastly, Wehmeyer would like to thank her teammates and coaches because she has a “high appreciation for [them].They have never failed me and they always have my back.”
Congratulations on this award, Tori, and best of luck during the rest of the season!
