Senior Michael Finlay has been named as one of September’s athletes of the month for his contributions on the WMC football and lacrosse team. Finlay not only plays running back and safety in football, but also, midfield in lacrosse and is captain of both teams. “My biggest achievement would be being named captain of both sports which is a huge honor” Finlay stated. Although he’s impressively captain of both teams, “My favorite part of being on the team is getting to hang out with my friends all the time.”
He’s been playing both sports since kindergarten. If he could tell those younger than him any piece of advice, “I would just tell the younger kids to enjoy every moment even when it is tough because it flies by.”

Junior Alanna Vieira has been named as one of September’s athletes of the month for her efforts on the WMC girls’ soccer team. “It has always been a passion of mine that I’ve been committed to and enjoy,” Vieira stated. Vieira has been playing since the age of four on numerous local club teams. She believes her team would describe her as hard-working, reliable, and supportive which is easily noticeable on and off the turf.
She is not only competitive but also enjoys the feeling of accomplishment and winning with her friends. Vieira adds, “My biggest athletic achievement so far is probably scoring the winning goal in the final minutes of our county game last year to advance my team and I to the next round.” Vieira would tell young soccer players “…before you know it, you’ll be coming to the end of your career and of something you’ve been doing for possibly as long as you can remember; so, make the most out of every game and every play.”
A big congratulations to both West Morris Central’s Athletes of the month. Not only for their athletic prowess but also for their P.R.I.D.E. in the Pack!
