- This past October, grades nine through twelve took a new NJSLA field test. Some thought it was beneficial and some did not.
There were two parts of the field test which meant two days. The first day of the test was math and the second was reading and writing.
Students had to take this field test to start preparing for testing in the later spring. One of the guidance counselors from West Morris Central, Mrs. Losik has some thoughts about the test. “It seemed like they finished the writing part pretty quickly,” Losik stated. “So I think they should make it longer.”
A student’s point of view on this new field test might be different, Alaina Padewski a ninth grader from West Morris Central stated that her “Peers feel they don’t need to, try hard or complete it at all, just because it doesn’t affect their grade or where their classes are gonna be.” This could be a problem later down the line for students other than juniors. If students younger than juniors don’t try it can later affect them once they take the test their junior year because they won’t have the practice.
Losik has stated that the actual required test will be taking place later this spring. She mentioned that on the required test for juniors there has to be a certain score to graduate. She had added that the field test was on what students had learned the previous year.
