Junior Rhone Armijo won athlete of the month for his contributions to the boys Hockey team. Armijo’s greatest achievement this season was reaching 100 points, he describes that as “…a pretty big achievement in high school hockey.” He has been skating since the young age of 5 and started officially playing hockey at the age of 10. Armijo’s favorite part of the hockey team has been the bond between his teammates. “My favorite part of the team is the bond we have with each other I think we are definitely the most family-like team out of all the other sports.” Armijo stated. His advice for young athletes is to brush off mistakes and look at the big picture, “if I could …just have fun [if you] do get stressed out about one little mistake or one bad game, it’s all about the long run not one small practice or game.” Armijo stated.
Sophomore Abigail Czinkota won December athlete of the month for her contribution to the girls swim team – typically swimming the 100 butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley (I.M.). Czinkota originally swimmed for the Chester Riptides, then transitioned to the Hunterdon County YMCA Stingrays, and finally moved to the North Jersey Barracudas (as well as WMC). Czinkota currently holds the school record in the 400 freestyle relay along with Elisa Porebski, Abby Ford, and Jillian Weinberger. She describes earning the school record as well as winning AOTM as her biggest athletic accomplishments. She believes young swimmers should focus on doing their absolute best rather than worrying about their time. “I’d say it doesn’t matter if you got a new best time or broke a record, what matters is that you tried your hardest and are proud of yourself.” Czinkota stated. She’s hoping to swim competitively in college, stating “I love this sport so much and the people in it.”
A big congratulations to both West Morris Central’s Athletes of the month. Not only for their athletic prowess but also for their P.R.I.D.E. in the Pack!
